In 2012, CAIR asked Brownback not to sign a bill the sponsors of which admitted was designed to attack “Sharia,” the religious principles of Islam.

In 2016, Brownback withdrew Kansas from the federal government’s refugee relocation program due to fear of possibly resettling primarily Muslim refugees from Syria in that state. CAIR notes that states withdrawing from the federal program cannot stop refugees from being resettled in those states or moving anywhere in the nation once resettled in the U.S.

(KANSAS CITY, KS, 3/8/17) – On Monday, March 13, the Kansas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Kansas) and Kansas Interfaith Action (KIFA) will hold “Muslim Advocacy Day” at the Kansas state Capitol in Topeka.
The event includes a rally in the 2nd floor rotunda of the capitol building and formal acknowledgement in each chamber during the session by a state senator and a state representative. Meetings with lawmakers and their staff will take place following the rally.
WHEN: Monday, March 13, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Rally begins at 9:30 a.m.)

CAIR Calls for Protection of Missouri Muslim Students Targeted by Racial Slurs, Offers Anti-Bullying Training
(KANSAS CITY, KS, 3/3/17) – The Kansas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Kansas), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today called on administrators at a Missouri high school to protect Muslim students after reports of ignored complaints of bullying and harassment targeting Muslim students.
Slurs such as “terrorist” were allegedly hurled at three female Muslim students of Middle Eastern heritage attending Osage High School in Independence, Mo.

CAIR-Kansas also offered to provide anti-bullying and cultural diversity training to all teachers and staff in the district to prevent similar incidents from occurring. (NOTE: While the incident took place in Missouri, it falls within the geographical jurisdiction of CAIR-Kansas.)
