(KANSAS CITY, MO, 9/15/17) -- On Sunday, September 17, a coalition of Kansas City organizations, including the ICNA-KC (Islamic Circle of North America – Kansas City), Burma Task Force-KC and the Kansas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Kansas), will hold a rally against the Burmese government's ongoing ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims.

During the rally, which is scheduled to take place at West 47th Street and J.C. Nichols Parkway on the Plaza, Kansas City, Mo., activists will call on both Kansas and Missouri elected senators to join Senator John McCain in supporting a Senate resolution that would condemn the Burmese government's violence.

Over the past several weeks, Burmese soldiers have traveled from village to village in Rahkine State, committing mass murder, rape, and arson along the way. Survivors, bystanders, and even perpetrators have posted video footage online showing Rohingya men, women and children being beaten to death, dismembered, and burned alive, among other acts of brutality. 

"We need to stand united against this most recent wave of atrocities, and steadfastly proclaim that ‘never again’ should humanity allow such acts to take place without doing something about it. We as a civilization live the regret of failing to act in the past, but we must act now.” said Moussa Elbayoumy, board chair of CAIR-Kansas. “We must stop another attempt at ethnic cleansing in Maynamar."

Facts on the ground:

• 370,000 have been displaced and entered Bangladesh in under 3 weeks
• 400,000 remain trapped inside Myanmar with no access to food or humanitarian assistance
• 30,000 are still stranded in mountains or in 'no-mans-land' without food
• 3,000+ already feared dead
• Bodies of Rohingya women and children fleeing Burma wash up in Bangladesh
• The UN has suspended food aid operations from fear, affecting 250,000 internally displaced (IDP) Rohingya and "other most vulnerable Rohingya populations"
• On the Bangladesh side, humanitarian partners are struggling to cope with the additional caseloads. Approx. 6 000 - 15 000 per day coming over
• Human Rights Watch (HRW) through Satellite evidence is documenting Military village burning stretching over 100 km
• Military is using helicopters, tanks, and the navy on civilians in this latest massacre, using bombs indiscriminately on civilian Rohingya population
