Khizr Khan

"Gold Star Father"
Constitutional Rights Advocate Attorney

Gold Star Father, Khizr Khan, is a lawyer and political consultant. He and his wife Ghazala Khan are the parents of Captain Humayun Khan who was one of fourteen American Muslims who died serving the military of the in United States of America. Captain Humayun Khan, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart for sacrificing himself to save his unit from a car bomb in Iraq. Khizr Khan became famous after speaking out against Donald Trump in the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Mr. Khan works as a legal consultant in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Dr. Altaf Husain

Dr. Altaf Husain is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and a double alumnus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, having earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and his M.S. in Social Work. He received his Ph.D. in Social Work from Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Husain's research interests include the mental health and integration of immigrant and refugee families, and especially Muslim adolescents, in the United States. He serves as Vice President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Vice President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and an advisory board member of the Peaceful Families Project -dedicated to the prevention of domestic violence. His past service to the community includes serving as a two-term national president of the Muslim Students Association (MSA National) and an executive committee member of the Muslim Alliance in North America (MANA). Dr. Husain lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and their children.

Nihad Awad is the National Executive Director and co-founder of Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) National. As a national leader in the civil rights movement, Mr. Awad has led multiple campaigns to defend the rights of Muslims and to help Americans of other faiths better understand Islam. Mr. Awad has testified before both houses of the U.S. Congress on matters involving Muslims in America. In 1997 he served on the White House Civil Rights Advisory Panel to the Commission on Aviation Safety and Security. In 2004, he was named one of National Journal’s more than 100 Most Influential People in the U.S. whose ideas will help shape the debate over public policy issues for the next decade. In 2012, he was named by a Georgetown University publication as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. In 2010, Arabian Business ranked him as 39th in the “Arabian Business Power 100” list, its annual listing of the most influential Arabs. Recently, in 2015, Los Angeles Times listed Mr. Awad as one of the New Civil Rights Leaders: Emerging Voices in the 21st Century. Mr. Awad has also been frequently interviewed on national and international media such as CNN, Fox, MSNBC, PBS, C-SPAN, Al-Jazeera, the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, National Public Radio and BBC World Service.
